Last weekend, East London was graced by the presence of two of New York City's finest. I'm speaking of none other than the profound author of the highly acclaimed Hip Hop Decoded, Black Dot alongside, the immeasurable wisdom (astounding in one so young) of Brother Rich. They were here to help enlighten the populous about the secret (occult) messages that are being portrayed to our youth everyday both subliminally and overtly through the mediums that are Hip Hop music/culture and through the mainstream movie industry.

Black Dot opened their two day marathon by introducing their audience to the founding fathers of Hip Hop and taking everyone back through time by playing some of the early beats and hooks that have now given Hip Hop a definite place in the music Hall of Fame forever. It was amazing to watch and hear Dot reach to the minds of a generation of young people who society has given up on and see these young people respond with eagerness to the knowledge he was sharing. On a personal note, it was wonderful to hear an American acknowledge that the founders of Hip Hop were not Americans by birth or culture, but in fact, are from the Caribbean islands of Barbados and Jamaica. I've been trying to tell many of my Jamaican Reggae-loving friends that Hip Hop & Reggae come from the same stem for years... thanks Black Dot & Bro Rich!


Mild-mannered and gentle-spoken, Brother Rich showed the hidden symbolism used in the artwork of many Hip Hop album covers and linked them to other symbolisms in Hollywood, in particular the film industry. It was inspiring to see this young man break down the codes and show it's relevance to Hip Hop and it's influence on not only our young people, but us as a people generally, to keep us under a level of mind-control. He's made me re-look at many a movie with a different eye, I can tell you. He taught a science class within the lecture and managed to make it fun enough for all to want to learn.

During the question and answer section the heat was turned up a notch as the audience were very informed with their subject matter as well as concise. Both Dot and Rich were more than able to meet the pressure and answered all questions with knowledge or opinion, which was met with appreciation and respect. Questions ranged from the significance of 2012 for everyone to who works on behalf of the “Illuminati/New World Order”? Many of the answers brought positive reactions, whilst a small minority were forced to mentally re-assess their music collections.

An enlightening time was had by all.

There were books, T-shirts, DVDs, jewellery, herbal remedies and many other things available for sale to back up the lecture.

My partner treated me to a beautiful hand-made copper Nkwah (Ankh to you) necklace and I'm very happy with his purchase. The audience left on a very amicable vibe.
We have a new currency –no more “Be Less” (bless), but “Be Moor” instead.
